Guwahati: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has announced a contribution of Rs 3 crore to the Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit state.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Assam, Soren wrote to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, assuring that the government and people of Jharkhand stand firmly with the flood-affected state during this difficult time.
In a post on Social Media Twitter , Soren said he was deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the floods and extended his heartfelt condolences to families who had suffered the loss of lives and property. He stated that the financial assistance had been provided in the spirit of cooperation to strengthen ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Soren also appealed to the people and institutions of Jharkhand to extend support to flood-affected families in Assam, saying that standing together in times of crisis is a shared responsibility. He also praised the resilience and courage displayed by the people of Assam in the face of adversity.
In his letter to Sarma, Soren described helping disaster-affected communities as a moral and humanitarian duty of the Jharkhand government.
The announcement comes as Assam continues to grapple with one of its worst floods this year. AS per the latest official figures, the death toll has risen to 97, while more than 1.68 lakh people remain affected across 15 districts.
