Man Lynched to death in Nalbari for objecting to firecrackers

In a shocking incident, a man was beaten to death in Nalbari of Assam for opposing the use of firecrackers at a wedding. The victim has been identified as Jatin Das, a 35-year-old laborer. The incident took place at Ghorathal village of Nalbari.

The police have arrested six persons in connection to the killing of Mr. Das.

The firecrackers were burst by the bride’s family to mark the arrival of the groom when a splinter hit Das.

Das stopped a child from bursting the crackers and allegedly hit him which enraged the wedding revellers. Furious at Das, the people first argued with him and thrashed him ruthlessly. Agitated at the incident, locals of the village vandalized the wedding venue and the situation turned chaotic. Finally, the Nalbari Police had to step in to bring the whole situation under control.

The bride and the groom’s family are currently in police custody.

Tension prevailed in the village of Nalbari as people demanded that the last rites of Das be carried out in the courtyard of the bride’s house.

Kuladhar Saikia, DGP of Assam Police has described the incident as “unfortunate” and said that the situation in the village is being monitored.
