Hailakandi: Following the heinous incident of a 14-year-old tribal girl who was raped and brutally murdered in Hailakandi district in the mid of March this year, the District and Sessions court today awarded death penalty to prime accused Jasim Uddin Barbhuiya in the sensational rape and murder incident.
The District and Sessions court Judge Debashish Bhattacharjee had booked Borbhuya under IPC Sections 376 (rape) 302 (murder) along with Section 4 of POCSO Act on October 1, 2018.
Guilty Barbhuiya was earlier sentenced a life imprisonment 376 and 4 of POCSO Act and to be hanged till death under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder.
The entire process of investigation, trial and conviction were conducted under the supervision of district police administration led by Hailakandi Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra.
It may be mentioned that the incident took place at the residence of the victim located in Betsora Purbashree village along the Mizoram border, in Hailakandi district, after the minor girl had just reached back home after school. The accused took the opportunity to enter the house of the tribal girl, considering her parents were at work and, raped her followed by brutally murdering her to conceal his crime.
The parents of the victim, on reaching home, found the mutilated body of their daughter who was also sexually assaulted and accordingly informed the Kalisera Police of Hailakandi district.
Looking into the situation, Police immediately rushed to take charge of the situation, while sending the body of deceased for post-mortem to Hailakandi Civil Hospital.
