Two NRC officials caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 in Guwahati

Guwahati: Based on a complaint, today morning at around 11 am Field Level Officer (FLO) of NRC Sewa Kendra of Dispur 8 at Ganeshguri Guwahati was caught red-handed by the Assam ACB Team led by a Deputy Superintendent.

The field officer accused identified as Syed Shahjahan (48) was caught accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 10,000 from complainant Mrs. Kajari Ghosh Dutta of Ananda Nagar Police Station Dispur, Guwahati.

As per police statement, the bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused field officer.

On the other hand, another accused Rahul Parasar (27), Assistant Local Registrar of Citizen Registration (LRCR) of the same NRC Sewa Kendra was also arrested who were found involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, all the connected documents have also been seized by the ACB team from the office of the NRC Sewa Kendra.

The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for entering the name of the complainant in the draft NRC. The accused had highlighted some technical defects in her application and demanded her bribe to correct the technical defects and enter her name thereafter into the final draft of NRC. Today the complainant was to pay the Bribe amount.

Thus the complainant had approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Assam and a Trap was laid down as per standard procedure in the matter of ACB PS Case No. 09/2019 u/s 7(a) of PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018).

The accused Public Servants have been arrested and will be forwarded to the Special Court tomorrow morning. Due procedures are observed.

It is to be noted that the Vigilance Work is carried out on specific direction from the Government of Assam, (Home & Political Department) enquiry and investigation are taken up in the Directorate on the following lines.

On receipt of any complaint that a public servant had exercised or refrained from exercising his powers for dishonest and corrupt purposes.

On receipt of any complaint of corruption, misconduct, lack of integrity or indulgences in malpractices or misdemeanor on the part of public servants including members of the All India Services in connection with the affairs of the State Government.
