Maha Shivratri celebrated with religious fervour across State

Silchar: The Shiva Temple atop Bhuvan Hills which is located on the tri-junction of Mizoram, Manipur and Dima Hasao district on the border of Assam is now the site of the greatest Hindu festival of Maha Shivaratri. Since last night, devotees have begun to converge on the holy place from different parts of Barak Valley and even Tripura to have a darshan of the supreme God.

During this pious celebration, many pilgrims observe fast as a mark of their deeper devotion. During the festival, worshipers offer their obeisance to Lord Shiva. Maha Shivaratri is the holy day on which many pilgrims observe fast. The peripheries of temples buzzed with activities as vendors made brisk sale of religious wares and laddoos.

Maha Shivaratri rituals include observing fast during day and night, performing a ritual bath of the Shivalinga with water, milk, honey and ghee, offering belpatra, flowers, and special offering of bhang and dhatura. The Maha Shivaratri holds a special significance for the devotees, who performed bhajans and devotional songs praising Shiva. Those who assemble from different parts of Barak Valley make it a day to offer their obeisance to Lord Shiva at various temples of Lord Shiva. Puja is also performed in many small temples across the valley. Many women and girls among the pilgrims also offer their obeisance to Lord Shiva keeping day long fast.

DHEKIAJULI: Maha Shivaratri was celebrated with great devotion in the presence of thousands of devotees at the historical Shree Shree Gupteswar Devalaya Singri under Dhekiajuli subdivision on Monday.

Devotees from different parts of Sonitpur district thronged the historical Gupteswar Devalaya from early in the morning on Monday to offered obeisance to Lord Shiva. On Tuesday, State Health, Finance and PWD minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone of the Rs 10 crore Gupteswar Devalaya development project. For this purpose, a meeting was held under the president ship of Tulshi Borthakur, general secretary, of Gupteswar Develaya Development Samity.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing the gathering, said, “It is our great responsibility to protect our civilization, preserve its culture and ensure development.” He also offered obeisance to Lord Shiva at the temple on Tuesday.

Every year, a great mela is held in the temple campus and this year also, a mela has been organized by the Gupteswar Devalaya management committee. The local administration has made elaborate security arrangement to smoothly conduct the Maha Shivaratri celebration.
