Review meeting on Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, POSHAN Abhiyaan held in Silchar

Silchar: In a bid to strengthen the functioning of ICDS centres through the able and efficient Anganwadi workers, proper implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and the Abhiyaan, a district-level review meeting was held on Wednesday at the conference hall of Zila Parishad here. The meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary of Social Welfare Jishnu Baruah. Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, in her speech, laid emphasis on the vital role which has to be played by Anganwadi workers in the smooth running of the various centres. She asked the supervisors and Anganwadi workers to focus on identification of malnourished children and remedial steps to be taken after identification. In his speech, Jishnu Baruah, Additional Chief Secretary, IAS, asked all supervisors and CDPOs to make an extensive visit and ensure the proper functioning of all Anganwadi workers. He also asked to complete the target of PMMVY, ensure supplementary nutrition programme to eligible beneficiaries and CDPO to submit utilisation certificate in time every month without fail to District Social Welfare officer, Cachar for timely release of fund.

A PowerPoint presentation was also shown which focused on the various aspects of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and POSHAN Abhiyaan. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a conditional cash transfer scheme for Pregnant Women and Lactating Mother (PW and LM) for first birth only. PW and LM will receive a cash benefit of Rs.5000 in three instalments, Rs.1000 in the first installment for early registration of pregnancy, Rs.2000 in the second one for performing at least one ANC which can be claimed after 6 months of pregnancy and Rs.2000 in the third installment for registration of birth of the child and after the child has received first cycle of BCG, OPV, DPT and Hepatitis-B or its equivalent or substitute. Niva Das, Deputy Director SW, Gitali Borah, State Programme Consultant, Ajoy Baisya, Statistical Assistant Raj Kumar Kedia DSWO, Joint Director Health, Lead bank manager also attended the meeting.
