Village Defence Party sammelan held in Silchar

Silchar: Silchar Thana, Village Defence Party Committee, organized a Assam Village Defence Organization, Cachar district, workers’ meet at Don Bosco School in Silchar on Tuesday.

Addressing the well attended function as its chief-guest Parimal Suklabaidya, minister for fisheries, forests and excise said, “People apprehended that untoward incidents might take place after the publication of second and final draft NRC List on July 30. But owing to the active role and participation of the VDP personnel, no untoward and unpleasant incident was reported from any NSK. It is indeed a highly commendable job. They made sure that law and order situation does not arise.”

The minister further said that VDP is keeping its watchful eyes over the State government’s various development projects. “VDPs have been working and serving the society selflessly and untiringly,” he added. Both the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Cachar were all praise for VDP. They said that their performance during the NRC update and verification process was exceptional and incomparable. Guest of honour, chief advisor, VDO, Assam, Anjan Bora said that vehicles would be provided to the deputy advisor of VDO for visiting the border areas. He also stressed on the importance of having a sound financial and educational system. Ashish Halder, deputy advisor, VDO, Cachar, informed that there are 19881 VDPs in Assam out which 6000 are unregistered.
