DIBRUGARH: In the prestigious Nature Index 2024 rankings, Dibrugarh University's Department of Physics achieved notable recognition, ranking 34th in the Academic category and 42nd in the Overall category. This accomplishment demonstrates the department's outstanding growth in research output over time.

The Dibrugarh University Vice Chancellor recently felicitated the Head of the Department in honour of this milestone. The Director of IQAC, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Registrar, and faculty members from the Department of Physics attended the ceremony.

The department's commitment to academic quality and innovative research is highlighted by this honour, which also helps the university maintain its standing as a renowned institution for science and engineering.

Earlier this month, Dr. Bitap Raj Kalita from Dibrugarh University's Department of Physics and Centre for Atmospheric Physics attended a national meet on January 6, 2025, at ISRO Headquarters in Bengaluru to mark the first anniversary of Aditya L1's halo orbit insertion. He was the only scientist from Assam and the North-East invited to the event.

Aditya L1, India’s solar observatory, has released its first-year data, showcasing new scientific findings. The meeting included updates from project leaders, familiarization with the data portal, and discussions on maximizing data usage for space weather and solar physics research. Dibrugarh University’s Space Science group, with decades of collaboration with ISRO, will actively evaluate this data.
