PT Usha, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Attend Dibrugarh University’s 56th Varsity Week As Chief Guests

Legendary athlete PT Usha inaugurated the 56th Varsity Week of Dibrugarh University, inspiring students with her journey as the university begins its Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

DIBRUGARH: Legendary athlete PT Usha attended the 56th Varsity Week of Dibrugarh University as the chief guest on Sunday, alongside Union Minister and Dibrugarh MP Sarbananda Sonowal. The event, organized by the Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students' Union (DUPGSU) 2024-25, marked the beginning of the university's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The "Queen of Indian Track and Field" inaugurated the event, highlighting the significance of sports, discipline and perseverance in shaping a student's life. Her presence served as a huge inspiration to the students, who had the opportunity to learn from her remarkable journey.

The Varsity Week will host sports, cultural, and literary competitions, encouraging friendship and healthy competition among students while honouring the institution's heritage.

On the sidelines of the event, PT Usha along with her husband V. Shrinivasan, attended an interactive 'Meet and Greet' session at Delhi Public School, Dibrugarh on Monday. The session witnessed an enthusiastic crowd of over 1,200 students, parents and dignitaries. Among the notable attendees were Lakhya Konwar, Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association, PVC CA Sanjay Jain, Director Banita Jain and other board members.

During the session, PT Usha shared anecdotes from her early training days, where she practiced along railway tracks due to the lack of proper infrastructure. Encouraging students to stay dedicated and hone their skills, she emphasized the importance of hard work, resilience and parental support in achieving success.
