GUWAHATI: The Durga Puja fever has gripped Guwahati now that Mahalaya has announced the arrival of the goddess on earth. Puja committees in the city, as usual, are busy bees.
Thematic puja is not new in Assam. The Athgaon Sarvojanik Durga Puja Committee has the 112 feet Shiv statue in Tamil Nadu as its chosen theme. Through the budget (Rs 26 lakh) puja expenditure they want to portray the grandeur of the majestic statue. The committee is also not going to cut cost in security aspects. Besides deployment of volunteers and home guards, they are set to install seven CCTV cameras, and measures for firefighting. “The Committee is using local artisans and no artisan is hired from Kolkata or other places. The head artisan is Krishna,” said the PRO of the Committee, Bikash Jha.
