Sentinel Digital Desk

GUWAHATI: The stolen gold bars incident which led to the surrender of Sub Inspector Nipu Kalita, has received fresh light on Wednesday, as information regarding 2 pieces of gold bars was received. Although Kalita has been tight-lipped on the incident even after much probing, the recovery of the two stolen pieces has given the authorities new direction into the case.

One Gyananda Singh was captured in Manipuri Basti on Tuesday with reports of being involved in the selling of the bars. According to police sources, a gang of gold smugglers connected with Singh and handed over 4 pieces of gold bars to sell. However, they took back 2 pieces and Singh sold the remaining two to a jeweler, one Nayan Dhar in Lakhtokia. The ornaments created from the gold were seized by police officials and Dhar along with his close ally, Sheikh Nasseem, have been taken into police custody.
