Even as COVID-19 cases have continued to surge in Guwahati at an alarming rate, exactly at 7 pm in the evening today, the city entered yet another lockdown to mitigate the spread of the virus.
In yet another COVID-19 related tragedy, a 45-year-old resident of the city lost his battle against the virus, taking the death toll rising up to 11. At present, there are 2,063 active cases of the virus in the state.
The new phase of lockdown will see all shops and businesses apart from medical and a few others deemed as 'essential', shut down. The situation will be reviewed this coming Friday, after which the Government will decide whether to continue with the strict rules or to provide relaxations. Coinciding with the lockdown in Guwahati, night curfew timings across Assam have also been increased -- now, curfew will be clamped from 7 pm to 7 am. Additionally, weekend lockdown has been brought into effect to contain the respiratory disease.
