GUWAHATI: A total of 289 members of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will cast their votes at the Rajiv Bhawan here between 10 am and 4 pm on Monday to elect the new president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
The two-cornered contest is between Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor and both had visited Guwahati recently to canvass for votes. Votes from across the country will be counted on October 19.
Meanwhile, APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah appealed to all party members to exercise their democratic right and play an active role to elect the new AICC president.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia also appealed to party colleagues to exercise their franchise to elect "an experienced and able leader" to lead the party at the national level.
