GUWAHATI: Although half the academic session is almost over, a large number of school students from across the state haven’t received their uniforms yet. The Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA) has now moved to the chief secretary of Assam and has been urged to intervene in the matter and ask for solutions.

ASPTA mentioned that the schools were given a mere six days to make arrangements for the uniforms of the students under a notification published by the Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA). But due to server and other technical issues, over 3000 schools in Lakhimpur, Dhakuakhana, and other districts were not able to make the necessary arrangements by March 31, 2023, following which the allocated funds were taken back from the accounts of the schools. Thus, it is impossible for the schools to procure the uniforms.

Following this, ASPTA gave a memorandum to the Mission Director (MD), SSA, on May 3, 2023, and it was again highlighted in the 13th State Executive Meeting of SSA on June 16, 2023, where the MD assured that steps would be taken to solve the issue. Even after six months of academic sessions elapsed, uniforms were not distributed in more than 3000 schools.
