GUWAHATI: As on day 4 of the Pension Week going on in the office of the Labour Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Guwahati, a total of 700 workers from unorganized sector have enrolled their name for the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan- Dhan Yojana (PM-SYM) mega pension scheme.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Labour Officer, Guwahati Naresh Chandra Das said, “As on the 4th Day of the Pension Saptah, we’ve done 200 on-the-spot online registration and around 500 people have registered their names offline. This is because Aadhar Card has stand as a barrier in the registration procedure. As, this scheme demands having an Aadhar Card, but we’ve seen that only 12-14 % people have Aadhar Cards. Hence people can also apply for the scheme later on by visiting Common Service Centres.”

Das added, “Those having annual business turnover below Rs 1.5 crore are eligible to be the beneficiary of the scheme. However, they must belong to the age group of 18-40. They’ll have to deposit 50% of the total amount, the government will contribute the rest of the amount and after the age of 60, they’ll receive Rs. 3000 per month as pension.”

“We’re also taking some awareness drive to make people aware of this scheme. We’re targeting Noonmati, Satgaon, Kalapahar, Chhaygaon, Rangia, Pandu and some other places to conduct the awareness drive. We expect to reach a satisfactory number of people to enroll under this scheme” Das said. With the objective to make wide publicity as well as special enrollment drive under the PM-SYM scheme, pension week has been observed in every district.
