76th death anniversary of Bhimbor Deori observed at Srimanta Sankardev Kalashetra, Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The 76th death anniversary of tribal leader Bhimbor Deori was observed on Friday at Srimanta Sankardev Kalashetra in Guwahati under the auspices of the All Assam Deuri Students’ Union and the Deuri Autonomous Council, with patronage from the Department of Cultural Affairs, Assam.

Speaking as the chief guest, the Chief Minister paid floral tribute to the tribal leader and unveiled the statue of Bhimbar Deuri at Borbari in Guwahati and the Bhimbar Deuri Bhawan from the Kalakshetra premises virtually.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said, “Bhimbor Deori loved Assam from the core of his heart. He was vocal about the rights and existence of the indigenous people of the state, besides opposing the infiltration of foreigners into Assam. He was against groupism among the ethnic communities of Assam. He was a binding force to bring the ethnic communities of the state under one platform. He is a tribal as well as the leader of the state, whose contribution is still to be evaluated.”

The programme was attended by Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, MLA Bolin Chetia, CEM Deuri Autonomous Council Bhairav Deuri, and others.
