Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government will inaugurate 80 more Tea Garden Model Schools in the month of January 2026 to ensure overall development of the students belonging to tea garden community as well as students in the tea garden areas.
While interacting with the Headmasters of the Tea Garden Model Schools and Adarsha Vidyalaya at GMCH auditorium on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that with the vision of bringing about qualitative changes in the academic landscape of the tea garden areas, State government decided to set up 200 Tea Garden Model Schools in 800 tea gardens across the state. Accordingly in November 2022, foundation stone for 118 schools was laid which are functioning at present in the tea garden areas.
He said that considering the successes that the Model Schools have achieved, government will inaugurate 80 more model schools in the tea garden areas. He moreover said that along with increasing the number of the model schools, government is also committed to enhance the infrastructure of the schools along with improving the service conditions of the teachers posted in the model schools.
Taking note of the occasional incidents of drop out cases, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that State government is considering the option for introducing mid-day meal for the students of class IX and X standards. He said that along with the students from nursery to Class VIII, the students of higher standards that is Class IX and X will also be getting the benefits of mid-day meal. The Chief Minister during the interaction also took stock of the teacher strength, pass percentage, student attendance in the model schools. He also said that government will take steps of introducing smart boards and smart class rooms in the model schools.
The Chief Minister during his interaction also took stock of the functioning of the 57 Adarsha Vidyalayas in the state. He said that since Adarsha Vidyalayas were set up to with a vision to nurture talent, values and creativity through high quality education, through these vidyalayas, government is putting in efforts for elevating quality education in remote areas and asked the headmasters to strive for excellence.
Dr. Sarma also said that government will take steps for formalizing one year compulsory apprentice training for the B.Ed students in tea garden model schools and Adarsha Vidyalayas. He also said that considering the demands of the Headmasters, government will erect boundary walls for the schools which do not have them. He also said that for ensuring attendance of the students in schools in remote areas, government will also provide bicycles to the students from Class VI onwards. He also asked the Headmasters to introduce skill training for the students of Class IX and X in the model and adarsha schools.
