GUWAHATI: AAJYCS (Asom Anusuchit Jati-Chatra Santha) wrote a letter to the Vice Chairman of the National Commissioner for Scheduled Caste, New Delhi, regarding the aspirations and demands for uplifting the Scheduled Caste in Assam.

AAJYCS general secretary Nityananda Das heightened the demands and aspirations for the underdeveloped SCs in Assam. Their demands include the cancellation of promotions for civil servants on a reservation basis by the Assam State Government. For SC welfare and development, there has been no fund allotment and no sanctions carried out by the Assam State Government in the last three years. There should be special preference for the right of indigenous SC people in Assam to live in forest areas. There should be work allotment, and preferences should be given to SC contractors to implement development schemes under the direction of the Director of SC Welfare in Assam. Also, they have demanded the immediate implementation of the SC/ST Atrocities Act, 1989, in the state of Assam. There should be verification of a fake SC certificate in every department, and the need to enquiry of the Director of Schedule Caste Welfare in every central and state scheme.
