Guwahati: The All Assam Polytechnic Founding Faculty Association (AAPFFA) has announced a temporary suspension of its ongoing protest after 48 days of continuous demonstrations. The decision comes in the wake of persistent government inaction on their demands, leaving the aggrieved faculty members frustrated and exhausted.

While talking to media, the protesting lecturers expressed deep disappointment over the state government’s failure to respond to their plea for direct reinstatement to their previous positions. The association reiterated its stand that asking them to reappear for recruitment examinations would be unjust, as the positions they once held remain vacant.

“After nearly two months of protest, we are physically and mentally exhausted. The government has treated us unfairly, and this injustice extends beyond us to our families and society. Despite multiple attempts to initiate discussions, we received no positive response from the authorities,” the lecturers stated.

The faculty members, who were part of the founding teams at various polytechnic institutions across Assam, have been demanding the restoration of their jobs after their contracts were allegedly terminated unfairly. They argue that their removal contradicts previous assurances and policies regarding their employment.

Despite their decision to temporarily halt the agitation, the association clarified it that their struggle is far from over. They extended their gratitude to various organizations, intellectuals, and journalists who supported their movement, acknowledging the crucial role these stakeholders played in amplifying their voices.

However, the lecturers issued a strong warning that if the government continues to ignore their demands, they will be compelled to resume their agitation with renewed intensity. “This is a temporary pause, not an end to our movement. If our demands remain unfulfilled, we will escalate our protests in ways the government cannot ignore,” they asserted.
