Accumulated Garbage Turning The City To Filth

Sentinel Digital Desk

GUWAHATI: It is a sad plight that even after much echo about Swacch Bharat and multiple drives of the Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan, our city has failed in inculcating the most basic of civic sense, not to pollute roads by dumping garbage in the roadside. Miles before one even nears a garbage dump; the putrid smell overwhelms any passerby and to openly discard garbage, takes the uncouth act a notch higher.

The open waste stash in Beltola, near Rangmanch Path opposite Hotel Royal de Casa, is a sight and smell of horror. According to sources, the waste has been dumped in the same spot for quite a while and no steps are taken either to clean or prohibit it. The area is a prime location of the city and as such should be properly maintained, yet, the area is the filthiest.

“No one pays heed to any Swacchata Abhiyaan. The garbage lies on the roadside and no one comes to pick it up until a complaint is lodged.

Everything cannot be blamed on the government; the society too needs to learn basic civic sense. Openly discarding waste is unhygienic and is the cause of multiple health ailments. However, the government in their part also needs to oversee proper sanitation in the city. Regular disposal of accumulated garbage is a must”, a resident of the area commented.
