GUWAHATI: An Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer serving as Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Kamrup Metro attempted suicide on July 10 by jumping from the first floor of his official residence at Magistrate Colony near Guwahati Club. He is currently in critical condition at Nemcare Hospital.
The officer left behind a suicide note stating he was solely responsible for his actions, expressing concern for his wife and child. Although he largely absolved others of blame, he did mention one person in the note.
The officer had been battling a neurological condition caused by a stroke for the past year and was under continuous treatment. The financial and emotional burden of the treatment reportedly affected his mental health.
He had returned from a medical consultation on Thursday and, citing a delay, asked his family to dine out while he stayed back. He then attempted to take his life.
The incident has left the administrative community in shock, highlighting growing concerns around mental health and stress among public officials.
