AJYCP gheraos office of the 'Commissioner of Transport' in Guwahati

Guwahati: Massive protest staged by the members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) at the Commissioner of Transport Department office in Guwahati on Monday.

As per a report, the members of the AJYCP today gheraoed the Paribahan Bhawan for their careless attitude in nabbing the persons who are involved in running illegal vehicles in the city of Guwahati resulting in massive traffic jams and air pollution.

The protesters alleged that many illegal ‘tempo vans’ have been running in the city illegally, but no action has been taken up the concerned authority in this regard, they claimed.

Also, slamming the state transport minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary, the AJYCP protesters chanted slogans 'Paribahan bihaag haai haai', 'Chandra Mohan Patowary murdabaad'.

The protest was also joined by the members of the Jatiya Shramik Parishad.

A media report claim, the areas in the Guwahati city from Gauhati Commerce College to Ganeshguri Chariali has become a nightmare for several commuters in the city due to massive traffic jams created by these illegal tempo vans.

It is to be noted that the stretch of the RG Baruah Road popularly known as Zoo Road connects major arteries of the city such as Chandmari, Rajgarh, Geetanagar, Tarun Nagar and the GS Road via Ganeshguri.

Reportedly, Traffic congestions normally begins in the city from 9 am in the morning and lasts till 10.30 - 11 pm at night, one of the commuters claimed before the media.

It may also be mentioned that a major addition to the traffic woes as of now in the Guwahati city is the illegal parking of vehicles along the stretch of the road, which has seen a boom of commercialisation with new shops thronging every other day.
