GUWAHATI: The amendment of the AERC Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (FPPPA) Regulation 2010 does not work to the benefit of power consumers. This has been pointed out by the All Assam Electricity Consumer Association (AACEA).
AACEA said that, after the amendment of the regulation, in the name of FPPPA, now Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) can hike the power tariff without conforming with AERC. AERC did not take any public or consumer opinion into account when amending this regulation. The draft AERC (FPPPA) regulation for 2023 was not made public and was amended very secretly. Earlier, APDCL had to inform consumers regarding the details of the increase in fuel and power purchases. But now, after the amendment of the regulation, APDCL can increase the rate of power tariff in the name of FPPPA, which is a one-sided decision.
So, AACEA has demanded that the regulation be cancelled to keep up with the earlier regulation.
