GUWAHATI: As the much controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was approved by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, entire Assam seems to be in extreme anguish. Along with the other organizations of the State, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) expressed their resentment over the matter and burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The AASU leaders stated that in the interaction with Amit Shah, they had put their statement that CAB would never be accepted in Assam. As the CAB got approval of the Cabinet, the AASU burnt the effigy of Modi, Shah and Sonowal in front of Shahid Bhawan in Uzanbazar to express their resentment. It has threatened of taking a massive protest. An executive member of the student body, Simanta Thakuria, said, “The AASU never wants to accept the conspiracy hatched by Amit Shah and Narendra Modi. They are trying to impose the CAB upon the people of Assam. We neither agreed to this Bill earlier, nor will we agree to it now.”
