GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) demonstrated all over the State on Saturday in protest against skyrocketing prices of all essential commodities, including onion, potato and other items.

The regional committees of the students' body demonstrated demanding the State government to bring prices of all commodities down. The protestors took to the streets and other public places with potato, onion, gas cylinders, utensils and shouted slogans against Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury.

In a statement issued to the media, AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the long lockdown has badly affected the economy of the State. "To cap it all, the State government has been making the people bear the brunt by hiking prices of all commodities to sub-serve the interest of traders and business. This is not just. The government has to reduce prices of all commodities and give the consumers a succour, else there will be protest against the government all over the State," the statement said.
