GUWAHATI: The All Assam Tribal Unemployed Association has demanded implementation in full of The Assam SC and ST (Reservation of Vacancies in Services and Posts) (Amendment) Act, 2012.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, the association's president Anil Burman said that they want that the State Government should abide by the provisions of this Act while recruiting people to various vacant posts, advertisements for which are being published of late.
Burman said that according to this Act, 7 per cent Government jobs should be reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, 10 per cent jobs should be reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) (Plains) and 5 per cents jobs should be reserved for ST (Hills). Further, the Act provides that those SC and ST candidates who become eligible for recruitment on the basis of merit, should be excluded from the reservation quota and counted as general candidates, he said.
Burman said that while the Act also provides for filling up backlog in reserved posts in various departments, there are 12,155 back posts yet to be filled up in various departments of the State Government.
He demanded that the backlog should be filled up through a special recruitment drive.
He further said that the Act also provides for halved application fees and examination fees. However, this has not been done in the advertisements for 26,441 Grade-III and Grade-IV posts. On the contrary, high fees have been mentioned in the advertisements. Burman said that application fee for Grade-III posts has been fixed at Rs 350 each for general caste candidates and Rs 250 for ST and SC candidates. Similarly, application fee for Grade-IV posts has been fixed at Rs 200 for general caste candidates and Rs 150 for SC and ST candidates. AS per rules, the relevant fees should be halved and should be Rs 175 for Grade-III posts and Rs 100 for Grade-IV posts.
Burman demanded that as such, revised advertisements should be issued by the Government.
