GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has said that if the BJP is to be defeated in Assam, all the anti-BJP and anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) forces have to get into a huddle, let alone the Congress and AIUDF.

Talking to the media here on Saturday, Saikia said, "When APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora announced the Congress-AIUDF alliance at the core committee, we did say that to defeat the BJP we need a grand alliance by bringing all those parties and organizations who have been vocal against the misrule and fake assurances of the BJP-led government in the State. It's wrong to term the Congress a weak party. It ruled the state for 15 years at a stretch. It has both history and power to its side.

"Many people, various organizations and parties had to take to the streets protesting the anti-people policies of the BJP-led government. Our prime aim should be to unite all anti-BJP forces and to give the ruling party a united fight to topple them from power."
