GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday made public the names of Class 12 students who were allegedly promised higher marks in their CBSE examinations by Mahbubul Hoque, the arrested Chancellor and owner of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM). Sharing the list on social media platform X, Sarma stated, “These are the names of students who were promised higher marks in their CBSE examination by the owner of USTM, Mahbubul Hoque.” He further added that the Assam Police is investigating the matter, and a case has been registered. Hoque was arrested from his Guwahati residence on Saturday morning and taken to Sribhumi in Assam’s Barak Valley. Along with him, five teachers of the Central Public School, Patharkandi, which he owns, were also arrested in connection with the case. All six accused were produced before a local court in the Sribhumi district which remanded them to judicial custody yesterday.
