GUWAHATI: AGP launched their membership drive from Saturday in every Assembly seat in the State upon the AGP central committees appeal under the banner ‘AGP for Asom’.

After the Assam Accord was signed on August 14, 1985, Asom Gana Parishad saw its inception in Golaghat. Twice the government came to power in the State and for the third time, the party is in governance owing to their alliance with the ruling BJP party.

The organizational strength is weak with most of its leaders having joined other political parties. One of the major setbacks is the lack of youth leaders in the party. As such, to increase the strength of party members, AGP has launched the membership drive. The membership drive was initiated at the birthplace of AGP in Golaghat where party president Atul Bora, working president Keshav Mahanta, among various others were present. Meanwhile in Jalukbari, 300 new members were welcomed to the party. A joining programme was organized in this regard at North Guwahati Kala Parishad, where members from the Congress and various other political parties joined AGP.
