GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has welcomed the draft delimitation proposal of parliamentary constituencies and legislative assembly constituencies. According to the party, delimitation will benefit the indigenous people of the State.
A central executive meeting of the party was held on Tuesday at the party head office in Ambari in Guwahati. It was presided over minister and AGP president Atul Bora. The meeting discussed the draft delimitation proposal in details. The party will place its suggestions before the Election Commission.
The meeting concluded that the delimitation process would protect various legislative assembly constitutiencies for the indigenous people in future. The party’s workers’ meet will take place on July 9 in Diphu for the Diphu parliamentary constituency and on July 23 for the Kokrajhar parliamentary constituency. In Assam there are 14 parliamentary constituencies. The party has held workers’ meets in 12 parliamentary constituencies so far. After the remaining two meets, workers’ meet will be held in all the legislative assembly constituencies. The first workers’ meet will be held in Bokakhat.
Minister and AGP working president Keshab Mahanta, senior leader Phani Bhushan Chaudhury and other party leaders were present in the central executive meeting.
