GUWAHATI: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has submitted a memorandum to the government seeking an extension of the deadline for online self-enumeration under Census 2027 in Assam and demanding special rehabilitation measures for flood-affected and homeless families in the wake of the state’s recent natural disasters.
The organisation said the devastating floods and landslides that recently struck Assam have severely disrupted the lives of lakhs of people. Many families are still living in relief camps or damaged houses, while the lack of electricity, internet connectivity, communication facilities and essential documents has made it difficult for people to complete the online self-enumeration process for the Census.
AJYCP urged the Central Government to extend the deadline for online submission of Census details exclusively for Assam, considering the extraordinary circumstances.
AJYCP president Palash Changmai and general secretary Bijon Bayan demanded immediate approval, preferably within one month, for eligible flood-affected beneficiaries included in the 2018 survey list under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), enabling homeless families to receive housing assistance. They also demanded special sanction from the Central Government based on the new housing survey conducted before the 2025 Assembly elections so that eligible beneficiaries in flood-hit districts, including Sivasagar and Charaideo, can receive benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at the earliest.
They further sought early approval for the construction of cattle sheds, pig sheds, goat shelters and other livestock infrastructure under the Individual Beneficiary Scheme (IBS) of the BVRAM(G) scheme to help livestock rearers and small farmers restore their livelihoods after the floods.
AJYCP urged the government to accord top priority to the rehabilitation and socio-economic recovery of people in the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo.
