Guwahati: Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday chaired a review meeting of the Water Resources Department via virtual conference from his office chamber at Janata Bhawan. Engineers of the department from all districts joined the meeting virtually to provide updates on the current status and progress of ongoing projects aimed at mitigating the state’s flood and erosion challenges.
During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the progress of initiatives undertaken by the department to reduce flood and erosion risks across Assam. He stated that under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the department has been consistently working towards implementing emergency protection measures and constructing new embankments using advanced technology.
The Minister specifically assessed whether certain areas in the state remain vulnerable to floods and erosion. He also reviewed the availability of materials dispatched to different districts and examined whether there is a need for additional supplies.
Minister Hazarika also instructed concerned officials to ensure that protection works at the 331 identified vulnerable sites are completed on time. He emphasized that these schemes must maintain quality standards and that utmost care should be taken to prevent misuse of public funds in the procurement and utilization of materials, stated a press release.
