Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi criticized the BJP-led state government for its failure to effectively manage the ongoing flood crisis in Assam.

Addressing the media after a political affairs committee (PAC) meeting held at Rajiv Bhawan on Friday, Gogoi said, “The state government has failed to effectively manage the flood situation in the state.”

He also reiterated the long-standing demand to declare Assam’s flood and erosion issues as a national problem. “Erosion remains one of the state’s most serious and persistent challenges. Despite repeated appeals from various political quarters, no concrete steps have been taken to address the issue at the national level,” Gogoi said.

The MP further pointed out that Assam was excluded from the list of states that received central assistance beyond the SDRF allocation during last year’s floods.

“We are demanding that the state government takes a firm stand and raise this issue directly with the Prime Minister during his visit to Assam on September 8,” Gogoi added.

Speaking on the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, Gogoi confirmed that the Congress will contest independently. He said that the party will give full attention to the BTC polls, along with other forthcoming elections.
