GUWAHATI: The artistes fraternity along with the intellectual society of Assam termed government’s initiative to host Filmfare 2020 in Assam as diplomacy to slow down the anti-CAA protest going on in the state. Appealing the people of Assam to boycott the particular award show they also called it as an insult to the people of Assam who are continuously struggling to safeguard Assam and Assamese identity.

Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club on Tuesday, Chief convenor of ‘Ancholikatabad Suraksha Mancha’ Arup Borbora said that – In a situation where the whole Assamese community is going through a crisis situation to ensure its existence, the Assam government’s patronage towards hosting the ceremony is actually an inhuman behavior. Borbora said, “There’s no example of providing patronage by a government to host a programme like Filmfare that is carried by a private corporate group. This show doesn’t confer any government recognized awards like Rajat Kamal and Swarna Kamal and so on. We’re not opposing Bollywood. Hence we’ve disagreement with the manner in which it has been organized” He further claimed that by organizing this show in Assam the Corporate group will take away more than Rs 200 Crore from Assam that belongs to the people of Assam. The intellectual society along with the artistes fraternity also prepared a leaflet signed by well known intellectuals and artistes with an appeal to boycott the Filmfare 2020 in Assam.
