Guwahati: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), Division-II, has released the academic regulations for the Higher Secondary (HS) courses for the 2025–26 academic session. Along with the regulations, the board has also issued detailed guidelines and a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure the smooth functioning of academic activities across institutions.

The new guidelines outline the process and timeline for students seeking to change their subjects or stream in the HS curriculum. According to ASSEB, only registered students of Division-II will be eligible to appear in the Class XI Annual Examination and the HS Final Examination.

Students who have passed Class X or the HSLC examination from ASSEB Division-I (formerly SEBA) or any other recognized board under the Government of Assam or the Government of India are eligible for admission into the HS courses. The board has emphasized the importance of proper subject selection at the time of admission. Students should be encouraged to choose subjects they intend to continue in Class XII, ensuring that such subjects are available in the institution and taught by competent teachers.

However, the board has also made provisions for subject changes under specific circumstances, such as medical emergencies or academic difficulties. In such cases, students may apply for a change of subject, provided the request is submitted by October 31, 2025, for Class XI, and July 15, 2025, for Class XII.

Importantly, the guidelines clearly state that students from the Arts and Commerce streams will not be permitted to shift to the Science stream. Those wishing to do so must seek re-admission in Class XI.
