GUWAHATI: In a series of successful operations today, the Basistha Police apprehended multiple criminals across different areas of the city.
A veteran burglar, Dipankar Das (26) from Sonapur, was arrested by a police team from Jorabat after he was caught in possession of a stolen impact wrench at the 12 Mile Area near Jorabat. In another operation, the same police team from Basistha Police Station arrested Suman Ali (21) from Hajo for possessing three packs of stolen welding rods. Ali was caught in the Sagalpara area of Lokhra.
Meanwhile, during a routine naka checking operation near Judges Field on MG Road, the cops intercepted a vehicle with registration number AS 01 QC 5046. Upon inspection, they found 360 liters of illicit liquor (Chulai) being transported from Tulsibari, Rangia to Bamunimaidan.
Additionally, an East Guwahati Police District team from Basistha PS successfully cracked a bicycle theft case when they arrested Altaf Ali, known as HaruSunu (20). The stolen bicycle was recovered from Patarkuchi.
Meanwhile, earlier today, Nagaon police led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jayanta Baruah busted a gang of oil thieves involved in stealing oil from an oil pipeline and arrested four persons in connection with a recent oil theft case at Barhampur Bherbheri area in the district. Subsequently, police also seized two oil tankers laden with several thousand litres of stolen oil from an oil pipeline near at Barhampur Bherbheri area, a week back.
As per reports, the arrested thieves have been identified as Jalaluddin alias Jalu, Pranjal Kunwar, Madhurya Singha of Nagaon and Jiten Gogoi of Makum.
