Assam Cabinet decision on reservations in educational institutions

As per the recent cabinet decision, the number of reserved seats in the institutions is expected to be increased towards ensuring equitable representation in terms of education.

GUWAHATI: As per the recent cabinet decision, the number of reserved seats in the institutions is expected to be increased towards ensuring equitable representation in terms of education. The following are the number of seats as announced by the State government.

Gauhati University has a total of 1993 seats and 538 out of them are reserved for the OBC, 7 for Tai Ahoms, 6 for Tea Garden Communities, 6 for Konch Rajbongshis, 5 for Chutia, 6 for Moran and 5 for Matak. Out of 886 in Dibrugarh University, 239 are reserved for OBCs, 4 for Tai Ahoms, 2 for Tea Garden Communities, 1 for Konch Rajbongshis, 2 for Chutia, 3 for Moran and 3 for Matak. Out of 920 seats at Bodoland University, 300 are for OBC, 3 for Tai Ahoms, 4 for Tea Garden Communities, 4 for Konch Rajbongshis, 2 for Chutia, 2 for Moran and 1 for Matak. Out of 1110 seats in Cotton University, 42 are for OBC 5 for Tai Ahoms, 4 for Tea Garden Communities, 3 for Konch Rajbongshis, 3 for Chutia, 2 for Moran and 2 for Matak. In the Bhattadev University, 112 out of total 155 seats are reserved for OBC, 1 for Tai Ahom and 2 for Konch Rajbongshi. Out of 415 seats in the Assam Women University, 34 are for OBC, 2 for Tai Ahoms, 1 for Tea Garden Communities, 1 for Konch Rajbongshis, 1 for Chutia, 1 for Moran and 1 for Matak. Out of 125 seats in Rabindranath Tagore University, 67 are reserved for OBC, 2 for Konch Rajbongshi. In Madhabdev University, 3 out of 250 seats are for OBC, 2 for Tai Ahom, and 2 for Matak. Out of 149 seats of Majuli University, 148 are for OBC and one for Konch Rajbongshi. And in the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, 2 for Tai Ahoms, 2 for Tea Garden Communities, 2 for Konch Rajbongshis, 2 for Chutia, 1 for Moran and 1 for Matak out of total seats of 547. The Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management has 13 seats and Birangana Sati Sadhini State University has 13 OBC seats. Taking the total number to 113 seats in 12 universities of the state.

In the Government Polytechnics 58 for Tai Ahoms, 58 for Tea Garden Communities, 58 for Konch Rajbongshis, 43 for Chutia, 43 for Moran and 32 for Matak bringing the total number to 292. In Government Engineering Colleges, 21 for Tai Ahoms, 15 for Tea Garden Communities, 15 for ex-tea garden labour community, 22 for Konch Rajbongshis, 16 for Chutia, 15 for Moran and 15 for Matak
