GUWAHATI: In a significant operation, a team from the Fatasil Ambari police station in Guwahati apprehended one accused person identified as Bittu Bowal who had stolen batteries from an ATM booth located at the city's Lalganesh area. During interrogation, he revealed that he had sold the stolen batteries to some scrap godowns at Ulubari and Birubari near Majar.
Accordingly, a raid was conducted on the said scraps, and a total of 3 persons, namely, Rafikul Ali, Altab Hussain, and Imran Hussain, were arrested.
A total of 13 batteries (which includes six ATM batteries), a total of 11 numbers of new ceiling fans, a total of 18 numbers of copper wire bundles, a total of 5 numbers of motors used in water boring and one Redmi laptop were recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, in a similar incident, Sivasagar police recovered three stolen ATM batteries and arrested three individuals near Sivasagar Railway Station. The arrested individuals have been identified as Bhola Gowala, Sahidur Ali, and Najima Begum. The trio allegedly stole the batteries from an SBI ATM in the town on Sunday night, according to police reports.
Based on intelligence inputs, the stolen batteries were found during an early-morning police raid near the railway station. Further investigation is underway to find out if the accused were involved in any other criminal activity.
