Assam Floods: Flood scene deteriorates slightly

The overall flood situation in the Assam deteriorated somewhat following rainfall in the last few days.

GUWAHATI: The overall flood situation in the Assam deteriorated somewhat following rainfall in the last few days.

As on Monday, the river Beki was flowing over the danger level in Lower Assam. As many as 17 revenue circles under nine districts have been affected by the recent rainfall – Bajali, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Tamulpur and Udalguri. As on date, over 35,000 people of 99 villages are affected by floods.

Meanwhile, 1,054 people are continuing to take shelter in seven relief camps in the Chirang, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts.

It may be mentioned that 180 persons were killed by floods and 19 others by landslides in the recent wave of floods.
