Guwahati: Gauhati University has issued a stern advisory warning students, parents, and guardians against falling prey to fraudsters posing as intermediaries and demanding money in exchange for false promises of admission.
The University confirmed that the matter has already been reported to the police by the Registrar, following the circulation of misleading information by unauthorised individuals. “Some unauthorized persons are trying to collect money for admissions,” the University stated in a post on its official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance against such activities.
In a notification issued a day earlier, the University cautioned the public to trust only official communication channels for any admission-related information. It further clarified that Gauhati University holds no responsibility for any consequences arising out of interactions with such unauthorised sources.
“All genuine admission-related information will be made available only through recognised and verified university platforms,” the advisory stated, urging everyone to stay vigilant.
To ensure wide dissemination, the advisory has been shared with key stakeholders, including the Registrar, heads of academic departments, Directors of GUST and Students’ Welfare, and the Principal of the University Law College. The notice has also been uploaded to the University’s official website.
Gauhati University has appealed to students and guardians to immediately report any suspicious activities or individuals attempting to solicit money under the pretext of admission assistance.
