GUWAHATI: Dr Harshita Gogoi, an Assamese environmental scientist born and bred in Guwahati, has made an impact at the international level with her valuable contributions to developing novel water treatment technologies.

The technologies are not only sustainable and economical but also highly efficient in removing toxic metals and inorganic pollutants from aggressive wastewater systems. Dr Gogoi is currently working as an R&D Engineering Project Manager at Evoqua Water Technologies, one of the prestigious water technology companies in the world.

Within four months of joining the company, Dr Gogoi performed outstandingly and filed her first patent in the USA in affiliation with the company. Her role at Evoqua Water Technologies is significant in identifying new water treatment technologies and evaluating their commercial potential in treating the most complex industrial wastewater streams.

Being part of the R&D team, she is actively involved in the company's R&D work in designing novel water treatment solutions and closing the gap between lab-scale research and the real-world application of these technologies.

Dr Gogoi completed her Master's as well as Ph D in Environmental Engineering from the University of Oulu, Finland in 2016 and 2020, respectively.

Dr Gogoi successfully invented novel chemically modified biomass-based wastewater treatment products with high removal capacity of toxic heavy metals and sulphates from mining wastewater and urban runoff streams. The technologies she developed can overcome several challenges of conventional water treatment processes.

She was the first non-European to be chosen for the position and worked there while finalizing her Ph D dissertation until receiving her Doctorate and subsequently moving to the United States.
