GUWAHATI: At a time when the unemployment problem is deepening in the State and the Government's own data reveals that 1,07,149 posts ranging from Grade-I to Grade-IV are lying vacant since 2014 in 50 departments, it has come to light that the recruitment process in several departments is hanging fire despite publication of advertisements for recruitment.
According to sources, towards the fag end of Sarbananda Sonowal's tenure as Chief Minister various departments, directorate and Deputy Commissioners' offices had issued around 3,000 advertisements for recruitment to various posts before the last Assembly elections in the State.
Lakhs of candidates had applied for these posts, but the recruitment process remains a non-starter to this date.
The departments concerned include the Agriculture Department (157 posts of Agriculture Development Officer, Assistant Agriculture Engineer and Junior Engineer (Agriculture); Social Welfare Department (138 posts of Supervisor and Lower Division Assistant); Directorate of Economics and Statistics (45 posts of Statistical Inspector); Panchayat and Rural Development Department (377 Grade-IV posts); Directorate of Soil Conservation (145 Grade-III and Grade-IV posts); Sericulture department (180 Grade-IV posts); Directorate of Handloom and Textile (100 Grade-IV posts). This apart, candidates had also applied to an advertisement issued by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department for recruitment to 1,324 contractual posts under the department.
Similarly, several Deputy Commissioners' offices had also issue advertisements for recruitment to various posts.
An applicant for one of the advertised posts pointed out that various Government departments had recently issued advertisements for recruitment to sundry posts and question as to how the new recruitment process would be completed without completing the recruitment process that was started last year.
