GUWAHATI: UP police arrested a man hailing from Guwahati, Shahjahan Khandakar, on the charge of hacking his wife and five-year-old son in their rented house at Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh on the night of April 11.

The bodies of the mother and her son were taken to Madgharia (Ahmed Nagar) in Guwahati on Sunday last. Their janajas were performed on Monday.

According to police sources, soon after going to Sultanpur in UP, Shahjahan engaged his wife, Risima Begum, and their 13-year-old son, Nesibur, in a private firm as labourers. On April 11, his elder son did not go to work, and that led to a quarrel between the couple. The quarrel resumed at night when the mother served her son Nesibur a meal. The mother kept the elder son outside their rented house for the night. The next morning, Nesibur came back to their rented house and found her mother’s and younger brother’s bodies lying with injuries.
