Guwahati: In a series of operations, city police have busted multiple theft rackets, leading to the arrest of seven individuals involved in LPG cylinder and iron theft cases.
Following a complaint of LPG theft, a team from Sonapur Police Station, East Guwahati Police District (EGPD), tracked down an auto-rickshaw (AS01QC5341) used in the crime. A probe, aided by technical analysis, led to the arrest of four accused. They are Rakesh Rai (18), Manab Das (28), Lakhi Boro (20), and Sahidul Islam (receiver of stolen goods).
Interrogation of the accused led to the recovery of 11 stolen LPG cylinders from a shop.
In another successful operation, a team from the Basistha police station apprehended three individuals attempting to sell a stolen LPG cylinder in Patarkuchi. The arrested suspects have been identified as Ajay Kalita (24) of Palashbari, Ajay Rabha (24) of Patarkuchi, and Sanidul Ali (19) of Chaygaon. One stolen LPG cylinder was recovered from their possession.
In a separate operation, acting on intelligence inputs, a team from Satgaon police station, Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD), caught a suspect red-handed while committing theft near Jyotirekha Path, Bailey Factory, Satgaon.
The accused, identified as Nurul Islam (27) of Kalgachia, Barpeta, was found stealing iron materials. Police recovered and seized one iron bed frame, one rectangular iron pipe (7’), one iron rod (20 mm, 8’), and two iron rods (8mm, 12’ each).
Legal proceedings have been initiated against all the accused.
