Guwahati Police shot at Ajul Hoque while trying to escape police custody late at night. Hoque is accused of attempting to murder a woman in broad daylight.

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police shot at Ajul Hoque while trying to escape police custody late at night. Hoque is accused of attempting to murder a woman in broad daylight.

The incident occurred on Friday evening at Golden Path in Bhetapara, where Hoque allegedly attacked the woman with a sharp blade-like object. The woman and Hoque are currently undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

According to the DCP, there had been a romantic relationship between the victim woman and Ajul Hoque.

The woman, a tenant in Kailash Nagar, Bhetapara, Guwahati, had been living there when Ajul Hoque, who hails from Dhubri, came to Guwahati.

Later, while being transported from the hospital for medical reasons, Ajul Hoque requested to relieve himself and exited the vehicle. He then attempted to escape, pushing aside the accompanying police officer despite being repeatedly warned to stop. In response, the police fired three rounds at his leg, successfully detain him once again.

Police said the woman and Ajul were in a relationship despite reportedly married to different partners. Additionally, Ajul Hoque is said to have a history of prior criminal activities.
