Guwahati: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) has submitted a formal appeal to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, requesting immediate intervention to halt the process of relocating the Centralized Pension Processing Cell (CPPC) of the State Bank of India (SBI) from Guwahati to Kolkata.

In a letter submitted on Wednesday, SAKP emphasized that a large number of retired employees, including teachers and government servants in Assam, draw their pensions through various SBI branches across the state. The CPPC branch, currently located in Lokhra, Guwahati, plays a crucial role in efficiently addressing pension-related issues for these retirees.

Citing reliable sources, SAKP expressed concern that SBI has decided to shift the Guwahati CPPC branch to Kolkata. “Such a move would create immense difficulties for pensioners, as they would have to depend on a distant office to resolve discrepancies or issues with their pension accounts,” the letter states.

SAKP argued that transferring the CPPC branch outside Assam would lead to unnecessary hardship and bureaucratic delays, especially for the elderly population dependent on timely pension services.

Appealing to the Chief Minister for prompt action, SAKP wrote, “We request your immediate intervention to ensure that the SBI pension branch remains in Assam and continues to serve the lakhs of retired employees effectively.”
