GUWAHATI: As several states across India report a renewed rise in Covid-19 cases, health authorities in Guwahati and across Assam are intensifying their efforts to prepare for any potential outbreak. While Assam has not yet experienced a spike in infections, officials are urging residents to stay alert and follow preventive measures diligently.
States such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi have already witnessed a noticeable increase in Covid-19 cases this month. In response, hospitals in these regions have been placed on high alert. Although the situation in Assam remains stable, the state is proactively enhancing its internal readiness to handle any sudden developments.
A senior official from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) stated, “One of our wards has around 100 beds. If the government issues any new instructions, we will be ready to scale up quickly. People must begin wearing masks again, maintain physical distance, and isolate themselves if they show symptoms.”
The National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, has assured that the state has a strong healthcare infrastructure capable of managing a potential surge in Covid-19 cases. “We have at least 2,000 ICU beds available across Assam. From testing to treatment, we are prepared in all aspects,” an NHM official confirmed.
Although the state government has not issued any new guidelines, internal reviews are underway to assess the preparedness of the healthcare system. Authorities have also reminded the public to remain cautious, particularly in crowded areas, and to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms related to Covid-19.
