GUWAHATI: AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh termed the incident relating to the use of tear gas on protesters in Guwahati a blot on democracy.

“Deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic loss of our dedicated Congress worker, Advocate Mridul Islam, during today’s peaceful protest against the BJP government’s corruption in Guwahati. The brutal use of tear gas and police violence under the directives of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed a life and injured many others, exposing the oppressive and undemocratic tactics of this regime.”

“This is not just an attack on our party but a grave blot on democracy itself. We demand immediate action against those responsible, including the resignation of the chief minister and a murder case against him,” Singh said, adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mridul Islam’s family during this difficult time. His sacrifice for justice and truth will not be forgotten. The Congress party remains steadfast in its fight for the people and against tyranny.”
