PALASBARI: A 53-year-old man lost his life after being attacked by a wild elephant in Rangamati, under the jurisdiction of Palasbari Police Station in the Kamrup district. The victim was Ashok Das, a resident of 3 No. Medhipara village in Rangamati.
According to local reports, the elephant herd had strayed from the nearby Rani Reserve Forest, likely in search of food. Residents of the area have expressed growing concern over the frequent human-wildlife conflicts, blaming deforestation within the reserve forest as the root cause. “We’ve filed dozens of complaints, but there’s been no serious action. People are living in fear,” said a local resident. Forest officials are yet to issue a statement on the incident.
