GUWAHATI: In a disturbing incident, an animal activist and his female associate were manhandled and misbehaved by a group of residents in the Lachit Nagar area. The attack occurred while they were attempting to rescue a dog from brutal abuse.
According to the animal activist, he and his associate received information about a stray dog being tied up and beaten by locals. When they arrived at the scene, they were heckled and misbehaved with by the group.
Despite calling the police and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) for assistance, the situation escalated, and the activists sustained injuries. The mob, consisting of around 40-50 people, also attempted to snatch their phones and had rods in their hands.
The animal activist previously requested police protection due to threats, but the incident highlights the risks faced by animal activists in the state. The police are investigating the matter, and further action is awaited.
